Neurontin (Gabapentin) Tablets are used to manage pain in the area affected by herpes zoster after the disease has been treated. It is also used as part of overall therapy for the treatment of partial seizures in patients over 12 years of age with epilepsy and as part of overall therapy for the treatment of partial seizures in patients 3 to 12 years of age.

How To Take Neurontin and Neurontin Dosage and Administration

Withdrawal from Neurontin should be gradual. How much medicine you take/give and how often you take/give it depends on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of the medicine you are taking/giving, talk with your health care provider. Carefully read the patient leaflet provided with this medicine and reread it each time you get this prescription refilled. Take this medicine exactly as prescribed by your health care provider.

Neurontin may be taken with or without food. If you are taking antacids, take this medicine at least 2 hours after taking the antacid. If this medicine is stopped or if a different seizure medicine is added to therapy, this should be done gradually over a period of 1 week. Do not stop taking or giving this medicine without checking with your doctor. Do not take or give any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your doctor. This includes and herbal preparations or dietary supplements. Do not take or give more Neurontin than prescribed unless advised to do so by your health care provider.

If You Miss a Dose of Neurontin

If a Neurontin dose is missed, take or give it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the Neurontin dose to catch up, unless advised by your doctor. If more than one dose is missed, restart medication and advise your doctor or pharmacist at your next visit.

If you suspect a Neurontin Overdose

Contact your health care provider at once if you feel you have taken or given too much of this medicine.

Before using Neurontin, tell your health care provider about any of the following: if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding; if you and/or your child are taking any prescription medicine, nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement; if you and/or your child are taking morphine ; if you and/or your child have kidney problems; if you and/or your child have any other medical condition.
